Closet Strategy: Chambray and Black

I remember when chambray first became trendy I was a little on the fence - I'm usually a jeans and a t-shirt kind of girl and the thought of going denim on denim brought me painful memories of Justin and Britney's matchy-matchy all denim fashion crime. Can you say cringe-worthy?
Anyways, I've come around to chambray once I found that the material is quite versatile. In fact, when I found this little gem at Forever 21, I instantly fell in love - it's a soft chambray blouse! It's become a staple in my closet.

In fact, I love pairing this blouse with the color black! Case in point, remember this post? I've found quite a few other ways to wear the color combination.
If you want to see how I style this blouse, please keep reading!

Outfit 1: Chambray + Black + Leopard

I think this is the perfect casual outfit for running errands and hanging out with friends! It's denim on denim, sure, but the trick is to wear two different denim colors - black jeans and a chambray shirt. I wanted to keep this look neutral but add an extra oomph to the outfit so I dug out my leopard flats! I'm a believer that leopard is a neutral when worn correctly. I don't like going overboard with the print, but when you add a little leopard accessories or shoes here and there, your outfit can go dull to chic! And of course I added my favorite moustache necklace. How fun is this outfit? :]
Bottom: Citizens of Humanity jeans
Shoes: Forever 21 flats
Accessories: thrifted necklace

Outfit 2: Chambray + Black + Homemade scarf

I LOVE the color coral so when I saw the yarn at Michael's I had to take it home and make a scarf. I made it a bit thicker than I wanted but it's sooo warm in the winter. I love how the coral pops against the neutral tone of this outfit. Combined with this knitted beanie and suede ankle boots, this outfit is warm-toned and great for winter.
Bottoms: Forever 21 maxi skirt
Accessories: Vintage pearl studs, homemade scarf, gifted hat
Shoes: Asos suede ankle boots

Outfit 3: Chambray + Black + Ankle Boots

I'm loving he casual-coolness of this outfit. When the blouse is worn untucked with this lace skirt, it creates a sort of casual-meets elegant vibe. We keep the look from being sloppy with structured accessories like this tote bag and ankle boots. Finished with a pair of aviator sunnies and you're ready to hit the town wit your girlfriends!
Bottom: H&M lace skirt
Accessories: Mulberry Bayswater tote, Urban Outfitters aviator sunglasses
Shoes: Forever 21 braided ankle boots

Outfit 4: Chambray + Black + Silk Scarf

I know that this is a lot of outfits in one post. And I also know that this last outfit is cheating. But bear with me - I wanted to show you guys how accessorizing can change one look into another completely different one. These are the same jeans as the very first outfit in this post. BUT I added a blazer, a silk scarf, swapped out the shoes for these fab wedges and put my hair up and I'm ready to take the business-casual world by storm!
Top: H&M blazer
Bottom: Citizens of Humanity jeans
Accessories: Scarf from a boutique in Italy, H&M statement ring
Shoes: Nine West loafer wedges

I know this was a long post and thank you all for bearing with me. Thanks for reading!
