Movie Night: Django Unchained

I think some of my most loyal followers will know that I am a Quentin Tarantino fangirl. So it's no surprise that I was one of the first people in line at the local movie theater to watch Django Unchained.
Despite the controversy around the film's use of the n-word, I found that the film was excellent in an unconventional way (typical Quentin Tarantino, of course). I'm no film student, but I'm a literature aficionado and a sucker for good story-telling. This film has that, an excellent cast, and loads of action, putting this movie near the top of my list for 2012 movies.
While Django was amazing, I gotta say the dialogue was not as great as previous Quentin Tarantino movies. I gotta admit, one of the things I look forward to when watching a Quentin Tarantino movie is the awesome dialogue in between fights/other crazy mishaps. The "Royale with Cheese" and Samuel L. Jackson's quotations from Pulp Fiction along with basically any scene where Christoph Waltz talks in Inglorious Basterds - where are those scenes in Django? There's a lot of unspoken lines in the movie which does make it so compelling to watch, but there are a lot less witty quips which was a little bit of a letdown. But don't let that deter you from watching this movie. Django is easily one of the greatest films ever made. A movie about slavery displays such real and unadulterated happenings. Imagine that.
