I know not everyone celebrates easter but I think we can all agree that spring fashion trends are going to pop up all over the place now, more than ever. I think we all know how excited I am for warmer weather for the sole purpose of being able to wear nicer and brighter clothes. Cold weather is so drab.
This sunday is easter! And since spring is in full swing, I thought of going all out with the florals with this pretty floral dress! It's funny because I used to hate floral prints because it was so girly and I used to be such a tomboy. But now, I realized that being a tomboy doesn't mean losing my femininity. Haha I know, duh! But remember, I was 12 years old. This dress paired with this white blazer the look is fresh and perfect for the spring!
We're revisiting an old classic today: Little Women
I remember when I first read this book, I was about 10 years old and, as most of the characters were older than me, I had a hard time understanding what was really going on in all the Marches' heads. Rereading this book, however gave me a renewed appreciation for feminism in the 1800s. Looks, status, and wealth is just as important now, than it ever was, but being graceful, kind, and strong is also important, which is what I think Louisa May Alcott was trying to tell her readers.
Happy Sunday everyone! I hope you've been enjoying your weekend!
I went to the zoo this weekend! The last time I went to the zoo was my senior year of college! I went with one of my best friends from high school to the Smithsonian National Zoo in DC and saw the pandas, the lions, and the tigers! Haha I definitely felt like a little kid again.
This week on my Closet Strategy series, I would like to explore the bandage skirt. I remember this trend first coming out and I wasn't sure if these skirts would quickly retire or not. I think it's safe to say now that this skirt is here to stay.
Anyone who's read my blog knows I'm a fan of basics with a twist. So it should come as no surprise that when I saw this top at H&M I was entranced. The color is neutral but if you look closely there are small splashes of color. At first I thought they were paint splatters but then I realized that they're actually pieces of bright fabric! It's all about the subtle details. When I showed my roommate this top, she said "They look like a kindergartener's project."
It's snowing in DC but according to the weather reports, Spring is just around the corner!
With the weather expected to get warmer, we all need something lighter than our thick coats that we've been wearing all winter long. The solution: trench coats! I had a post on trench coats last week and they've clearly been on my mind. They're versatile, comfy, warm, and oh-so-classic!
H&M Trench Coat
Here are a few ways I would style this jacket:
Outfit 1: Casual Stripes
Stripes, like the trench coat, are classic. To keep the look from being boring, try an unexpected color, like burnt orange, perhaps? I love this top because not only do I have stripes but a beaded bow on the shoulder as well! (Hint, I love bows). This is kind of a casual, vintage look so I would pair the top with a pair of boyfriend jeans and heeled oxfords to keep the outfit from looking sloppy. I would wear this outfit on a casual shopping day or out running errands.
Top: Forever 21
Bottoms: American Eagle Boyfriend jeans
Accessories: Mulberry bag, Stradivarius Belt
Shoes: Vintage oxfords
Outfit 2: Little Red Dress
I think you guys know by now that I love my little red dresses! I picked up this cute little number as soon as I saw that the little white specks are asterisks! Like I always say, its all about the details. I added warm-toned accessories and my heeled oxfords again and I am ready for brunch or shopping!
This look is perhaps the most classic of all. After all, the structure of a trench coat is very work-appropriate. So it makes sense to pair it with other structured pieces. BUT just because it's structured, doesn't mean it has to be boring. Remember this dress? I'm wearing it again but as a top! Wearing a lack pencil skirt over the dress keeps the look chic yet work-appropriate. I added my vintage Chanel tote to keep the formality and the structured look in place and I'm ready to strut my stuff at the office.
It's finally March and that means I need to go shopping for a spring wardrobe!
I've been looking at some of the new trends that will be in this season! Gotta say I'm excited! Emerald, Black and White, florals, sheers - the list is endless! Maybe I'll feature some of those trends on this blog?
Thanks for reading!
