Shopping Spree: Makeup Routine

Makeup Routine

Smashbox Tinted Moisturizer ($32) NARS Eyeliner ($27) / CoverGirl Mascara ($8)  NARS Orgasm blush ($29) / Revlon balm stain ($9)

Full Disclosure: I never wore makeup until my junior year of college.

I never quite understood how to wear makeup without making myself look like a clown and thought makeup was a tool for unconfident girls to hide themselves behind. But then I discovered Michelle Phan videos on Youtube and started to think that perhaps makeup can be a tool to express yourself instead. I know this may be obvious to you all but it was something that occurred to me fairly recently.

Anyways, these are the products I use regularly:

  1. Smashbox Tinted Moisturizer: I'm very fortunate to have good skin (thanks to genetics), so I don't feel the need to use foundation. However my skin does get a bit red sometimes (especially in the mornings), and it also gets a bit dry. Tinted moisturizer has been the answer to all my problems! I especially love Smashbox's tinted moisturizers but a cheaper alternative is CoverGirl. Personally, I will splurge on products that go directly on my face but if you don't have sensitive skin like me, go for something cheaper.
  2. Nars Marker Eyeliner: I love the way a sleek cat-eye eyeliner shape looks, but I don't have a very steady hand with most traditional liquid eyeliners. Fortunately, makeup companies have recently come out with marker-shaped eyeliners so clumsy people like myself can draw on any eyeliner shape they want. I really like the dark formula on this Nars eyeliner but god alternatives are the Revlon or Physician's formula ones.
  3. CoverGirl Lash Exact Waterproof Mascara: Because mascara has the shortest shelf-life of all beauty products, I'd say go for a drugstore mascara - after all, what's the point in getting a $30 tube of mascara when you can only keep it for four months? Not to mention most drugstore mascaras have great formulas, comparable to high-end ones, for less than half the price. Unless you're sure you can use up an entire tube in that time (which I know I can't), I recommend CoverGirl mascaras. They're inexpensive, easily found in most drugstores and work wonders! I barely have any lashes and the few I have stick straight down so I opt for the waterproof formulas.
  4. Nars Blush in 'Orgasm': I kinda look dead without a bit of color on my cheeks. I like how this blush brings a subtle glow on my cheeks without making it look like I put a crap ton of makeup on my face.
  5. Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stain in 'Honey': While I like lipsticks, sometimes they feel a little clownish and aren't always a good idea for every-day. That's where this balm stain comes in handy! It moisturizes while adding a subtle color on your lips that look very natural.
What are some of your makeup must-haves?
