Let's Get Organized: Computer

I was trying to find a few files on my computer this past weekend and I realized that I didn't know where anything was! It's funny - I never really think about organizing my computer or my laptop getting messy but... here we are. Here are some ways I went about organizing my Macbook:

  • Folders are your friends: Seriously guys - Create a Folder for every category in your life and organize all your files accordingly. When I was attending university, I had a folder called "School." In that folder, I had five more folders for each class I was taking. It was such a lifesaver during midterms and final exams! Just knowing where everything was was a huge help!
  • Delete files when no longer in use: I used to be a file hoarder... well, I still kind of am. I still have two files from back in my university days where I stored all my art history notes. I just wanted to make sure I never forgot that stuff because I was fascinated! It wasn't until recently I realized... I never actually look at those notes! I ended up printing them off and erasing them from my laptop to clear up some space. Seriously guys - the more space you have, the faster your computer will run. Just delete things you haven't opened up in two years. Chances are, you won't look at them for the next two years either.
  • Color coding is not just for children: I used to have a color for every class I took and marked that on my calendar. Regardless of whether you have a Macbook or a Windows computer (or any other OS computer for that matter), you should have a calendar of some sort. USE IT and COLOR CODE IT! Human beings are visual creatures - if we see our schedules and due dates written in color format, we'll have an easier time remembering things.
  • Back it all up: Finally, back up your files! Invest in an external hard drive, or if that's out of your price range, get a USB drive and save all the important stuff! I know it's annoying and a pain in the butt to have to do, but it's better to be safe than sorry!
Hope these tips have been helpful! Let me know if you have any other computer organizing tips or tricks!

  10. To be honest, dear Deborah, I´m a bit obsessed to organize my computer (and life in general) ;) My colleagues and my boss name me an organziation fanatic :) But this has indeed the advantage that I find normally everything what I need and this saves time and anger!

So I underline your suggestions in each point, they are really helpful and makes life much easier.
