Thanksgiving Break Essentials

So I, like every other American out there, am eagerly anticipating going home for Thanksgiving. Luckily my parents don't live too far away from where I do now (about an hour and a half drive) so I don't have a huge packing list like some of my other friends and co-workers. Most likely I'll be bringing some dirty laundry so I can wash it for free (hehe).

However, every Thanksgiving, I find myself needing a few key things that I can never seem to be without:

Thanksgiving Break Essentials

Wendybox sweater ($37) / Zara boots ($189) / Game of Thrones books (28.76) / iPhone ($200) / Modcloth Dress ($45)

  1. Cozy Sweater: I don't know where you guys live but it's usually quite cold this time of year in Maryland. I love having a big, warm sweater that I can throw on over my plaid shirts on my way over to my parents' home, or just lounging around the house. I know some people take the plane home and the inside of an airplane can be quite chilly. Be sure to have a jumper handy!
  2. Warm Boots (or Booties): The perfect boots will go with any outfit, keep your feet and legs warm, and just elevate your entire look.
  3. Cute Scarf: Like everything else I've listed so far, a scarf is oh-so-necessary to combat the cold (can you guys tell I hate being cold?) I really think that scarves can completely transform an outfit so have fun with the patterns and prints with this one.
  4. Reading/Listening Materials: However you guys make the journey to see your families (by train, plane, or car), it's nice to have reading or listening material so you don't get bored. I used to take the train home and I would take that opportunity to get my reading done. Now, I'll be jamming out to music in my car. If you are able to read, I recommend Game of Thrones or the other books in the Song of Ice and Fire series.
  5. Grandma-Approved Dress: And finally for Thanksgiving Dinner itself be sure to wear something conservative. I like to say that for family and conservative events, don't wear something if your grandmother wouldn't approve of it. You don't want to be getting the side eye by your more old-fashioned relatives all night do you?
What are some of your Thanksgiving essentials?

  12. Here in Germany we don´t celebrate Thanksgiving, although yesterday in our Bavarian daily newspaper, where each Friday recipes are edited, a woman with American roots showed how to cook some Thanksgiving food :)

But I´m sure you have chosen the perfect items for a perfect thanksgiving and like you I love it to have warm. At the moment here in Bavaria it´s also cold and I wear sweaters, boots and scarfs very often. Oh, and this is really an effort that you don´t having a washing machine, here in Bavaria on the country side we haven´t any wash saloons of this cause the own washing machine is even more important then the own car which is already also very important as we don´t have really much public transport.

Wish you an enjoying time with your family!
