Closet Strategy: Striped Skirt

Happy Wednesday! Time for another Closet Strategy post!

Forever 21 striped skirt
In a previous post, I emphasized the importance of a good striped top, but I think that a striped skirt is equally as important. They're surprisingly versatile and depending on the cut, they're comfortable and chic! Here are some ways I style my navy striped skirt:

Book Club: Breakfast at Tiffany's

I've mentioned Audrey Hepburn as my style icon multiple times on this blog and I've made references and dedicated a whole post on Breakfast at Tiffany's, my all-time favorite movie. This month, I found myself reading the novella that was the inspiration to the movie. Written my Truman Capote, the Holly Golightly in the book was given more dimension, as I'm sure any book lover will tell you. She's a free spirit escaping her troubled past (Audrey nailed that), but what I found quite surprising was the narrator (who was portrayed by George Peppard in the movie) was unnamed (not Paul Varjack) and also gay - so no romantic ending in the book (just Hollywood). Instead, the two characters had something of a quite intense friendship that was born from Holly's free spirit and the narrator's ability to see the sadness behind her happiness. The story is quite beautiful and I was incredibly drawn to how beautifully the piece was written. Any and every Audrey Hepburn fan should definitely read this book.

White Out | Monochrome with Rose Accents

Hello everyone!

Today is Memorial Day. While in the fashion world it means that we can officially wear white again (such an outdated rule :/ ) but it's also important to remember the fallen men and women in uniform who fought for our country. I have family members in the military and I'm reminded by them that our soldiers overseas can be gone at any moment. They willingly put their lives in danger for us all. So today please take a moment to remember these brave men and women. Oh and be sure to take advantage of being able to wear white ;)

Hello everyone? Did you have a good weekend?

With bikini season rapidly approaching I think it's safe to say that I'm sooo not ready. Something happens to me during the wintertime where I just slow down and just feel like sleeping and doing nothing all the time. By the time warm weather rolls around I just feel so out of shape.

Inspired By: Purple for Peace

Today is Wear Purple for Peace day and in honor of that I've come up with three outfit inspirations to wear the color purple. Because who doesn't love peace? :]

Closet Strategy: Printed Pencil Skirt

As someone who spends most of her time at work, it's important for me to be dressed appropriately for the office. However, I admit that professional clothes can be boring and stiff. That's why I love office-appropriate clothing with a twist like printed pencil skirts! I've been quite fond of this green floral print skirt and have worn this quite a bit to the office. However, pencil skirts like this aren't just for work anymore - here are some of the ways I wear my printed pencil skirt:

What's in Your Bag?

I was talking to one of my good friends who admitted that she's "nosy and I get curious as to what other people carry in their purses."
Obviously she didn't mean anything by it, but it did make me realize that a person's purse is very personal. Everyone carries different things inside and I think the contents of one's purse says a lot about their character.
So without further ado, allow me to show you the contents of my purse. Judge accordingly ;-)

Movie Night: Jackie Brown

While I am the biggest Quentin Tarantino fan, I just never got around to seeing Jackie Brown until recently. I don't know why - it's just one of those movies that just flies under the radar. I put it in my Netflix queue to watch and just didn't quite make time for it. I am regretting that I hadn't seen it sooner.

Jackie Brown is Quentin Tarantino's homage to blaxploitation movies and despite what Spike Lee thinks, I believe it was done extremely well. Starring Pamela Grier as the titular Jackie Brown, the movie tells the story of an extremely clever and resourceful woman who is just trying to escape her life of mediocrity and live it up in luxury. The movie starts off with Jackie getting arrested for smuggling money from Mexico Ordell Robbie (Samuel L. Jackson), an illegal arms dealer. Jackie strikes a bargain with the police to help them bring Robbie down and that's when the movie starts to get... shall we say interesting?

Inspired by: The Ladies of Arrested Development

One of my favorite TV shows in the world is Arrested Development.
It had a nice run on Fox for three years in 2003-2006. Created by Mitch Hurwitz and narrated by Ron Howard, it was a sitcom unlike any sitcom before or since. It garnered a cult following after it was taken off the air and it will be back on Netflix May 26 for a fourth season. Not gonna lie, I'm pretty excited about that.
In preparation for the return of Arrested Development, I decided to put together a few outfits inspired by the ladies of AD.

Closet Strategy: Striped Shirt

There's something so casually chic and classic about a striped shirt. While most people tend to favor a black and white breton-striped shirt, I always steer towards blue and white. Not sure why, but I like how a pop of color is neutralized by the white. It does make a top harder to style but not impossible. Use the classic look of the stripes to your advantage and the possibilities are endless. Allow me to demonstrate:
