Coral Trapeze | Peplum Top and White Shorts

Welcome Wednesday, lovelies!

The heat wave out here in DC has definitely died down a lot thankfully. I'm no longer afraid to go outside in the sweltering heat anymore! I gotta say, there were times this summer where I didn't do an outfit post because by the time I stepped outside, I was so sweaty and gross that my clothes were sticking to me. Not flattering, and definitely images you guys don't wanna see.

Book Club: Are We There Yet - Guest Post by Jen Muller

What do you do if you're having a bad hair day or just feel ugly for a day? You could sulk, wear a hat, or pretend your model despite the fact you feel hideous today. Personally I go for an alternative: realize that there's more to life than appearance and grab a book. Besides there is nothing sexier than a good book right? Instead of standing in front of the mirror and focusing on material problems, realize that everyone has had a bad hair day and use the rest of time reading a good book - you'll feel better about yourself in no time!

So that being said here is a book review, from this librarian to you! The first book I'm going to review for you is a Young Adult book that has been with me since 2005 and I find myself reading it at least once a year.  I've dropped it rafting in the Shenandoah River, read it on road trips to Minnesota, and in my bed.  This is the type of book that will move you at any age: Are We There Yet by David Levithan. The title "Are We There Yet," illustrates the theme of life being a journey and the destination is infinite, so asking the question "are we there yet?" is almost as pointless as trying to control your destiny.

End of My 90-Days of No Shopping Challenge

So my 90 days of no shopping has finally come to an end and can I say, FINALLY!?

This was so difficult for me in the beginning because of my poor timing. I started this challenge right before many spring/summer collections came out so I had to just drool over the gorgeous new clothes in shop windows. Torture much?

Fortunately, this challenge forced me to get creative or rely on gifts. I ended up making a skirt from an old piece of fabric or reinvent old clothing. I also managed to snag a few great pieces from a clothing swap a friend organized!

I think I learned a lot from this challenge. Not just in terms of creativity, mind you, but also about self-control and discipline. I used to just go out and buy new things whenever I felt like I "needed" something. The past three months taught me that I can get by with a lot less than I thought. The only time I cheated on this challenge was when I made a quick run to Forever 21 to buy a plain white v-neck shirt (only $5.80 but still) after I spilled wine on my old one and I found the stain wouldn't come off. I have a few other PWTs but that particular one was the perfect balance of loose and fitted so I was a bit heartbroken. That taught me that even though I don't need all the latest trends, I really can't live without the basics therefore that's probably where I should be investing my money on.

Anyways now I challenge all of you to try not shopping for three months. It will be hard but it will be rewarding and your wallet will thank you :]

10 Essential Closet Pieces

I'm starting a small series this week called "Essentials" where I list a few items that I think are essential for every woman. Today we will be starting with clothing that I think are very important. I've seen this list done many times in other fashion blogs and I think they're very personal and it depends on a person's lifestyle and occupation. For example, if you work in construction, your essential closet pieces may look very different from mine. But as a twenty-something woman who works in politics in DC, here are the things that I can never live without:

Back from Holiday

Hey guys

As I'm sure you've noticed, there was a lack of posts this past week. I've been visiting my family for some much needed vacation time and I decided not to post anything. It was a spur-of-the-moment decision so I never planned to take a break from the blog, but I thought of you guys the entire time. It's funny how empty my days seemed when I wasn't blogging. BUT I took lots of photos for the upcoming week and I have a few new post topics that I hope you guys will find interesting. Stay tuned, loves!

Grown-Up Playdate | Skorts and Pops of Color

Happy Sunday lovelies! Did you have a good weekend?

My good friend that I've known for years is coming down to DC to visit. When we were younger our parents would arrange playdates and we would run around in the park playground. Now we do more grown up things... like run around in the Zoo haha. Clearly we haven't grown up that much.

Working Girl | Colorblock Shift Dress and Vintage Prada

Hello lovelies,

My friend recently got me this dress! It's the absolute perfect shift dress for work and I absolutely love it! I can see myself wearing this year round - I know it's super hot outside, but the air-conditioned buildings have given me a cold so the long sleeves of this dress works for me. In the winter, I can see myself wearing this dress with tights. I'm so excited to own this dress!

Coffee Porn

As I'm sure most of you guys can tell from the name of my blog, I love coffee. Like, obsessed. If coffee was a person, I'd be its number one fan. If it was a verb, I'd do it all the time. If it was an adjective, I'd try to be more like it. As such, it is a noun and therefore can be admired all over the world. Here are some of the best tasting coffees that I've had:

A Little Late

Hey guys,

Unfortunately I've been feeling a bit under the weather. I think it's because the air conditioning is blasted on at work while the weather outside is hot and the temperature difference is making me ill.

In any case posts (especially outfit posts) will be a bit sparse. I tried to take some pictures last weekend but it's been exhausting with all the volunteering and meetings. A girl can get tired!

I promise there will be more posts and I think I'm going to use this time to get a bit more experimental with this blog.

Stay tuned, guys!

Summer Concert

Hello darlings!

I volunteered today at the BlackRock Center for the Arts in Maryland. They had a blues band, BG and the Mojo Hands, playing a free outdoor concert and I had an absolute blast! BlackRock Center holds free summer concerts every year and I always enjoyed them - they are a part of a summer tradition I have with my family. We either volunteer or go and watch the concerts every year.

New Camera

Exciting news! I finally got myself a new camera!

It's a Samsung NX1100! I was in the market for a new camera - I've been using a Canon IXUS point and shoot for this blog and while it's been god to me, I've had it since I graduated high school (which was five years ago) and it's definitely seen some better days. I thought it was time for an upgrade.

Movie Night: Oldboy

I think you guys know by now that I'm drawn to movies about revenge. I'm not really sure why - I don't really hold grudges, but maybe it's because I'm fascinated by people whose desire for vengeance drives them to go through so much. This week, I watched Oldboy.

Directed by South Korean director, Chan-Wook Park, Old boy is a 2004 movie about a man who was abducted and imprisoned in a hotel room with no contact with any other human being, including his captor, for 15 years. His only connection to the outside world is a TV. One day, out of the blue, the man is released from his prison without explanation. The man embarks on a quest to find his captor and take is revenge.
