Playing with Colors | Burgundy Sweater and Navy Trousers

So I think I'm going to start an annual tradition on the blog - Professional Outfits Month, where I wear business/business casual outfits. I think a lot of my readers are young professionals or about to enter the workforce and I think dressing for the job can be a bit tricky. Luckily I have experience dressing for various office settings. From the formal Capitol Hill office to the casual campaign office, every business setting has different dress codes and clothing culture and I want to help you guys navigate through the masses of black and white. So first up on the chopping block is an outfit featuring one of my favorite Autumn color combinations - burgundy and navy.

I think this is a great outfit for more relaxed business settings. I currently work in the government relations department at a trade association and this is the kind of thing you would see me wearing on any given week. Our dress code is business casual. Take note, young ladies - "business casual" does not necessarily mean jeans are okay. Relaxed trousers like the ones I'm wearing now, however, are just as comfortable as jeans but not as controversial.

So what do you think of this series? What kind of environment do you work in (formal, casual, etc)?

Top: Forever 21 sweater (also cute here), H&M shirt
Bottoms: Lilly Pulitzer pants
Accessories: LongChamp LePliage tote, vintage pearl earrings
Shoes: Nine West wedges (similar here)

  1. I'm excited about this new series as I always love to get new outfit ideas for the office as I think it can be a bit tricky to find outfits that don't repeat themselves.

  4. I love this series! It is lovely to see what others where to work! This sweater is just darling with the box print and I just love the way you layered it with your shirt! My main job is a style consultant so I have to dress a little more funky but I do accounting on the side and I wear the same funky clothes and they love it there too!

  5. This is a great idea for a new series!

Also, it's totally bizarre, but I don't think I've paired navy and burgundy together before...and yet, I wear this combo a lot. I think you've helped me decide on tomorrow's outfit though ;)

  9. That is such a great idea to incorporate business casual outfits in your blog Deborah! I work at H&M, so I don't have a strict dresscode, but in the future I think I will have a job, where the dresscode will be more strict, therefore, I would love to seek some inspiration from your outfits! :)
Anyways, my favorite piece in this outfit is definitely the bowtie sweater- I think it looks adorable! :)
