Six Cublicle Essentials

I think most of us spend most of our weeks at a work setting of some sort (or a school setting if you're not working). This got me thinking of some of the things I find necessary for me to be on hand at my desk. As someone who as been gainfully employed in various office settings for the past three years, I've put together a list of six essential items that is sure to be helpful for many women in the workforce:

Cublicle Essentials

  • Box of tissues: Now that the weather has gotten colder, the heat has gone up in the building and the temperature differences has got my nose running! I find myself reaching for my Kleenex box quite often throughout the day and I think it's just a handy thing to have period.
  • Small bag of toiletries: I keep a small bag locked in the back of my desk where I keep items such as tampons, flossers, Tylenol, blotting sheets, bobby pins, and hair ties. You never know when you're going to need small items like this throughout the day so it's great to have a bag that will cover your bases.
  • Ceramic mug: At around 2 pm, my food coma starts to hit and i start becoming aware of how much I ate for lunch and how sleepy I am. That's how I know it's coffee time. While the office I work at offers plastic disposable cups, I prefer going the reusable route and inject some personality to my cubicle with my fun "Keep Calm and Carry On" mug.
  • Extra pair of shoes: Running around in the office is pretty much part of my work day but wearing heels while doing so is painful. I keep a pair of mid-heel black pumps that i can switch into for meetings with the boss or the stray "VIP" that shows up. Love these Jenn D'Orsay pumps from Sole Society - very chic and goes with everything!
  • Light snacks: I have anemia so if I get even a bit hungry, my body starts shaking and I get kinda weird. I keep a tin of candy and a bag of chips for those exact moments.
  • Hand sanitizer: I work in government relations so that means a lot of handshaking. I think it's only polite to keep my hands clean. I like these scented ones from Bath and Body Works!

Do you work in an office setting? If so, what are some of your essentials?

  1. LOVE these ideas! Somehow, I don't have an extra pair of shoes at my desk...but as I sit here in my Hunter's right now....I realize that would be smart.

  2. Agree, love the post it is cute. I didn't thought about it. But you know what I have almost all of them. Hey, have a blanket or a thin cardi when I feel cold inside the office not desk essential though, lol.

  3. Great ideas!! Light snacks are also an essential for me!

  4. Dear Deborah, you are so right, I should really have an extra pair of shoes in my desk :) And what I'm also constantly missing are tissues. So: I will try to improve the content of my desk, thanks for the inspiration!

  5. Cute idea to share cubicle essentials! It's a topic I feel is kind of overlooked, especially considering that a lot of people "working" and "blogging" are doing both as work and hobby. I unfortunately have such a temporary desk situation when I go to work. Due to guidelines there can only be three things on the desk; computer, phone and CC reader! UGH. And when I'm not at work, someone else is! But I'm inspired to put together a little "go-to" bag for work. Maybe things like this that I can bring to work every day and bring home every night. Because you're so right, those are serious essentials!

    Much Love,

  6. Those are the exact same things that I keep at my work desk. I always need to have some kind of snacks at my desk too and I only recently put together a small bag of toiletries.

  7. love these things you keep, haha I also keep extra pair of shoes, you never know when you need them and I've always needed them more often than I think!

  8. Couldn't agree more... Total essentials.

  9. Yes to all of these! Especially hand sanitizer and snacks :)

  10. I honestly think that this is a very clever essential list. :)

  11. Bringing a comfy switch of shoes can literally save your *life* sometimes. i still remember times I decided to break in a new pair of shoes and something went wrong and a blister started forming. The rest of the day is just crap because you're only focusing on the discomfort. And I'm all about fun coffee mugs, too! It adds a little pep to the day :)
