5 Workout Essentials

Thumping Thursday everyone!

One of the things on my summer bucket list was to run a 5k in under 30 minutes. I signed up for the Georgetown 5k, held at the end of summer so I've been working out quite a bit for it. Today, I thought it would be fun to show you guys some of the workout gear I absolutely can't live without:
  1. A good sports bra: I think a good sports bra is an absolute necessity! I got mine from Lulu's, Nike, and Forever 21 respectively. A "good" sports bra will be different for everyone so it might take a bit of experimenting.
  2. Track jacket: Often times I will wake up early in the morning to avoid the hottest part of the day when I go running. Early morning is nice because the streets will usually be empty and no one will be around to disturb me. The con? It's usually a bit chilly. A good track jacket is useful to have for those occasions. When it gets hot, you can just tie it around your waist. No harm, no foul!
  3. Sturdy running shoes: I know bright trainers have become all the rage but I will always go back to my trusty Reeboks from 5 years ago (before athletic shoes became "chic"). They're old but they're well broken in.
  4. Phone holder: When running, music is an absolute necessity - I actually hate talking to people when I run so I put in my earbuds to discourage people from talking to me (I know but I like to work out in my own little world). I like this one I got from Lulu's - there's a slot to hold some cash and credit cards - just in case you're in a jam and need some money
  5. Head band: There's nothing I find more annoying than my sweat-soaked hair falling into my face during a run. I always tie my hair back but without fail, a few strands from the front will come loose and make its way to my eyes. I love these stretchy headbands by Scunci - they have rubber grips on them so it doesn't come loose while you're running.
So there you have it. What are some of your workout essentials? Let me know in the comments!

  3. haha I have one workout essential - a sleeping baby ;) Or, I'm going on a walk with him and the dog as my exercise for the day, hehe! I don't actually own any dedicated 'exercise' wear, unless you count my collection of swimwear for when I go for a swim in the pool :)

  4. Wow, those running shoes look like they've been well-loved! Do you find they're worn out in the back? I tend to do a number on my shoes and actually have to replace them when the backs get all hole-y.

Best of luck with running 5k in under 30 minutes. I definitely can't do that (yet).

  6. Yess for another fitness post! I completely agree with you- a good sports bra is a real necessity! I bought mine at H&M and, honestly even though, H&M is not a sportswear brand, it is very qualitative and comfortable!
And I absolutely need to get my hands on a phone holder as it is such a hassle to carry my phone in my hand or in my pocket!
    Great post! :)
