New Methods | Joggers and Floral Lace

I think it's safe to say that if I take a blogging break, things in my life outside of the internet have been going crazy.

Crazy is a bit of an understatement, actually: I finally bit the bullet and quit my job - I will be starting a new job next week! I hate being so negative so I try not to put too much about my personal life out there but I've been a bit unhappy at work. It was nothing personal but I couldn't help but feel like I wasn't exactly doing what I really wanted to be doing and the longer I stayed at my position, the less time I had to be pursuing what I truly wanted to do. Every day, I felt so stuck and I actually broke down and cried in frustration after work one week. That's when I knew I had to do something.
I'm a practical girl and I like to play it safe so I knew I didn't want to leave my job unless I knew I had a place to go (bills won't pay themselves, you know). After looking for a while and going to a few job interviews I found myself in an even more frustrating position - I was actively looking to leave my job but I wasn't really getting anywhere. I expressed my concerns to a mentor of mine and she said something that honestly changed my life:
"Maybe you should just quit and use the extra time to look for a job, interview, and network," she said.
"That's a horrifying thought! I have bills to pay (see above)!" I exclaimed.
"Yeah, but here's the thing - the careful methods you have been trying is what landed you in this frustrating position in the first place. It may even be what will land you in another frustrating position. Perhaps you should try doing something completely different and take a risk for the sake of your career?"
I had honestly never thought about it like that before and the more I thought about what she said, she was right! After some consideration, I put in my two weeks notice.
Here's the best part though - the day I submitted my letter of resignation, I got a job offer for a position somewhere I've wanted to work since college! I don't think I'd ever been so happy in my life and I decided from now on to apply unconventional methods to difficult situations, no matter how frightening the prospect. No risk, no reward, right?

I actually have this upcoming week off so I will be blogging more frequently. I wanted to take a mental health week before I start my new job :]
