Happy Memorial Day lovelies!
I wish you all a lovely and safe day! I am currently spending time with my family, enjoying a barbecue, and trying to get a tan in. I hope that whatever you do today, you remember the women and men in the armed forces who died fighting for our right to enjoy this day today.

Elevated Neutrals | Peplum and Lace Shoes

Hello lovelies!
I kept a rather neutral color palette for this look today. I simply adore these shoes because the color scheme ensures they go with everything but the lace keeps it from being anything but boring. I also love pointed toes because they help to elongate the legs while the ankle straps add a dainty and lady-like touch to an otherwise casual outfit.
I think that's the kind of look I really like - nothing too out there, just neutrals but... elevated. Little details that make an understated statement, if that makes sense.

Sweet May Flowers | White Blazer and Floral Romper

It's romper season again!
This was probably my favorite purchase last summer. I wasn't too big on rompers but this particular one turned me into a convert. I wanted to style it a bit differently from the way I wore it last year so I popped on a more fitted blazer with a pair of heels for a more grown-up look. I love the summery floral print of the romper

Hello lovelies!
On Monday I was fortunate to be invited to an event at Blo Blow Dry Bar sponsored by Palm Breeze. Palm Breeze is a light alcohol spritzer currently on the market that is targeted specifically for the millennial woman. They invited DC area bloggers and their friends to come enjoy a Palm Breeze with some yummy hors d'oeuvres, get their hair done and have a girl's night and experience "vacay every day!"
I invited my friend Julia to come with me. It was exactly the perfect way to spend a Monday evening after a hard day's work! We even got to meet Lauryn Evart of The Skinny Confidential who was hosting the event! So much fun!
The hairstyles they optioned for us were beachy styles. It made sense as the theme of the event was to experience a getaway anywhere. Julia and I opted for beachy waves. My stylist gave me so much volume and I was enchanted with my new 'do!
They also gave us some awesome swag - the blue circular tube is actually a cup holder you can put into the sand on the beach. Isn't that creative? They also gave us a pair of sunglasses, a hairtie, and a little pin.

Overall I really enjoyed my time there. I'd been pretty stressed out about various things that have been going on in my life so this blowout could not have come at a better time. I felt so glamorous and pretty walking out of that blowout bar with a drink in my hand. Palm Breeze tastes really good too (and I'm not just saying that because I was invited to this thing, I promise!) I went back to the drink table three times for refills because it was that good! I admit, I'm quite a lightweight but I was fine by the end of the night. I got my hands on a couple of recipes which I will be sharing next week!

Simplicity | Floral Dress and Silver Wedges

Wonderful Wednesday lovelies!
As the temperatures rise, I swear my outfits get simpler. Gone are my layers, my separate pieces, and my thick fabrics. I was initially planning on wearing a completely different outfit for today's post but I decided to swap it for this look instead: A lightweight summer dress with minimal accessories. This is a quintessential summer look for me - perfect for summer concerts, barbecues, and city roaming.
Also, after I got back inside, I realized I forgot to take a picture of my arm swag! Please excuse the out of place picture of my bracelets - I couldn't resist!

Tell me about some of your favorite summer pieces!

Workout Hairstyles for Short Hair

| On
12:00 PM
I wanted to talk to you guys about hair again - specifically in a workout setting. I cut my hair short back and January and while it's been growing back, It's currently at that awkward stage where it's not as long as I need it to be to put up into fun hairstyles but it's not short short either. Finding a cute hairstyle to work out in has been a challenge but I've come up with a couple of criteria each hairstyle must meet.

  1.  Hair must be kept out of my face while I'm running and bouncing
  2. Hair must keep from sticking to my neck - especially while sweating
  3.  Hair must stay in place throughout the entirety of my workout.
I've narrowed it down to a few options. If your hair is about the same length as mine, you may want to consider the following styles:
Braided Bun: This is fairly easy - I created two dutch braids at my part and stopped gathering hair once I got to my ears. I tied them both off and gathered the rest of my hair into a bun. I wrapped the braids around the bun (though it didn't completely reach around because of the shortness of my hair) and used bobby pins to keep them in place.
Headband Bun: I almost feel guilty for writing about this one because it's so basic! I got a headband with rubber lining (to keep it in place) and wrapped the rest of my hair in a bun. I used two spin pins by Goodie to create the bun. They are amazing - apparently one spin pin does the work of 10 bobby pins so two of these babies keep my bun in place with no need for adjustments!
Braided Knot: I created two dutch braids all the way down the sides of my head. Once they were tied off I knotted the two braids together and pinned them in place. Super easy and no slipping during my run Tell me about some of your hairstyle tips for workouts!

Power Outfit | Tweed Skirt and Red Flats

Hello lovelies!
This is probably one of my more boring outfits but I can't help but feel super confident in it! I call it my power-outfit because it incorporates my power-color (red), my favorite handbag, and tweed, a material I find to be sophisticated and mature. I like wearing this outfit to spring meetings, coffee dates, and brunches. Anywhere with a smart-casual dress code is my jam.

Tell me about your power outfit - what does it consist of?

Coffee Break: Tout de Sweet

| On
12:00 PM
With the popularity of my last post in my Coffee Break series, allow me to present you with another Bethesda favorite, Tout de Sweet.
I actually was hesitant about reviewing this place as it's honestly one of my favorite shops in the area and, as famous as they already are, I wanted this place to be my hidden gem. Selfish of me, definitely, but they're not so hidden anyway as this shop currently has a 4.5 star rating on Yelp so why not rave about a magical place on my blog and give them even more business, right?
The day I discovered Tout de Sweet was like discovering Hogwarts - I couldn't believe a place like this actually existed in the US and not just in the US but so close to me! While my original draw was excellent coffee, their most popular menu item is definitely their macarons. I've been to France and trust me, these macarons are the closest in taste to the ones I had in Paris. Makes sense since the chef, Jerome Colin, is a French native with over 17 years of experience working in both France and historic Washington, DC sites. Oh-la-la! Parisenne macarons, French pastries, and perfect coffee? Why wouldn't you??
If you're in Bethesda with a sweet tooth, I would definitely check this place out. It's a wondrous place (family-owned too, like Quartermaine in my last post. Your money will be supporting this business and won't be going into a corporate machine) filled with delicious food and a whimsical atmosphere.
