Things I'm Cutting From My Budget

Things I'm cutting from my budget to keep my finances organized

One thing I'm constantly updating and revising is my budget. I think that when you can create a reasonable budget that you can actually stick to, you can have anything you want! I made a few changes in my budget early this year and I am starting to really see how it's made a difference in the way I spend (and view) money. I made a lot of cuts that have really helped me and by listing them here, I am hoping they can help you rethink what you can save on too:
  • Cheap fast fashion: I've mentioned this before but I'm in the process of purging my closet of of my cheap Forever 21 items. I'm keeping a few items (like my chambray shirt...for now), but for the most part, I think I've outgrown F21, H&M, and even Primark. Instead, I'm planning on getting a few quality items from places like Nordstrom Rack or TJ Maxx and the like. Additionally, I need to get better at shopping sales from department stores.
  • Red meat: No, I'm not going vegetarian nor am I saying that I'm never going to enjoy a nice juicy steak. I made the decision to cut red meat from my budget (not diet) two months back. Recently, I had a work event where I was given a free steak dinner. Having not had any red meat in two months, this was a treat and I think I enjoyed my meal a lot more than I would have if I had meat regularly. I came to this decision because not only is red meat not exactly the best for your health when it comes to controlling your cholesterol or your fat intake, it's also quite expensive, even if you shop for it in the grocery store. I've significantly reduced my weekly grocery bill since!
  • Cheap jewelry: Other than my Kate Spade necklace that I wear in almost every post now (a sweet gift from Brian) but other than for the blog, I really don't wear too much jewelry in my everyday life. As I try to make my outfit posts more reflective of the things I actually wear (and not just #forthegram), I'm planning on not spending money buying jewelry I don't wear. I was never a jewelry person to begin with and having all of these necklaces, earrings, and bracelets that I've only worn a handful of times in the last 4 years makes no sense for my space nor my wallet.
  • Makeup I don't wear: I only ever use one eyeshadow palette and that's my Urban Decay's Naked3 palette. There's literally no reason for me to have the other 5 makeup palettes from various other brands when I almost never wear them! Same with my lipsticks and my nail polishes. My new rule is to use up all of the makeup I have before buying more. I have enough blushes to last me a lifetime and I should shop my own stash rather than surf Sephora at this time.

  1. Omg I feel you with the makeup haha, I only ever use my KVD shade + light palette but I can't stop buying new palettes!

  2. I am such a hoarder haha, I have so many Primark and sale pieces because they are so affordable but I love the idea of making a few important investments with my wardrobe, items I am in love with that I wear so much, but able to stand the test of time too :D I love your blog, it's so pretty! xx

  3. I'm very much like you, budgeting is so important and can be really rewarding! I've stopped buying lots of clothes too, especially from shops which are really cheap and basically encourage you to buy three times more than you would do with a more expensive, better quality brand. Same goes for makeup, I only use the Naked 1 and 3 palettes all year round and I never feel the need to buy more. Well, until I saw the swatches of the Naked Heat palette yesterday haha... But I'm trying to save money for the summer, so I need to stay strong!

  4. I relate to this so much! I didn't realize how much money I throw at lipsticks only applied once or hoop earrings I haven't even bothered to wear again until I read your post. Great post x

  5. I love this, kudos to your purge! I am with you that I feel I'm starting to grow out of fast-fashion. I try and buy better pieces secondhand or at TJ Maxx. And yes, THANK YOU sister re: posting what you really wear instead of crazy Insta looks! Happy Monday :)
