Books I Did NOT Finish

I rarely give up on books. I once read all of War and Peace when I was 12 (even though I didn't understand the subject matter) because I didn't like the idea of a book beating me. I tend to love most books I read (especially the ones they made us read in school - I loved them all) and I think it takes a lot for me to not like a book. I've written 47 book reviews on this blog and I've only disliked two of the 47 so that should tell you something about how much it takes for me to actually stop reading a book and try to forget I even started it.

With that said, here are three books that I just could not bring myself to finish and my reasoning for it:

  • It by Stephen King - Horror and I do not mix. I scare very easily and I just had to stop reading after a couple pages in because I knew finishing it would give me nightmares. I have friends who are afraid of clowns to this day because of this book and the film adaptations and I just don't want to have another fear in my life I need to manage. No thank you!
  • Twilight series by Stephanie Meyer - I know how popular this series is and that it is a series that people love to hate so I'm not being terribly original here. Still, I gave it a try and I just could not with the writing. Granted, I wasn't in the target age group when I first picked up this book to read (I was in college and the books were meant for teenagers, I believe), but even when I was a teenager, I loved classic literature and I couldn't help but find the plot, characters and the overall writing very lacking and rather nonsensical. Hard no from me.
  • A Million Little Pieces by James Frey - To be fair, I actually enjoyed the first few chapters of this book. It was interesting and it drew me in. Then I found out that the writer had lied about a few events that happened in the book and reading the book left a bad taste in my mouth. I returned the book back to my library and never looked back.
Have you read these books? Do you think I'm wrong? Do you have any books you couldn't finish? Let me know in the comments!

  1. I did read the Twilight books (I thought books 3 + 4 were the best) but I hated the movies! It made me realize how bad the books were watching the movies haha. I don't finish books I don't like sometimes!

  2. I'm so torn on wanting to read something by Stephen King because I think I'll be too freaked out. I tried to watch The Shining not that long ago and had to turn it off after like 5 minutes because I was scared, lol, so I don't think I could handle a book either.

  5. I read the Twilight books back when they first came out, and I really enjoyed them then! I did fall off the wagon somewhere around the 3rd movie, though!

  8. I don't think I could do Steven King, either. I feel like if I reread Twilight I would be frustrated with the writing and plot too. I enjoyed it in high school though.

  11. It is so sad that I actually rarely finish a book. I start so many great ones then get off track so quickly.
