Coffee Chat Vol. 33
Hey there! Thank you for reading today’s post. Before I get started with talking about general coffee chat things, I wanted to give you all a heads up that I will be traveling to South Korea on Sunday and taking a break from my blog. Initially, I was planning on scheduling content while I’m away but then I realized that I’ve been sort of feeling burnt out. Blogging is supposed to be a fun side hobby for me. Most of the time, it really is! I love taking photos, styling clothes, and writing posts. What I hate is putting unrealistic expectations on myself. I have a full time job outside of blogging but lately, blogging is becoming a second full-time job. I have to make time to take photos. I have to make time to write. I have to make time to engage on social media (which literally is a full time job for some people and I’m doing all of this on my own!).
Because I’m feeling burnt out, I also can’t help but feel like my blogging process is becoming stale as well. I’m constantly thinking about the blog and whether something I do or somewhere I go is “blogworthy.” I recently did a photoshoot with a bunch of other DC-area bloggers. While we were signing our photo release forms, one of the bloggers asked if we were supposed to sign with our Instagram handles. I was kind of baffled because why would one sign a legal document with our Instagram handles and not our names? I couldn’t understand how someone could be so absorbed with social media until I realized I’m in no position to judge because so much of what I do is for the blog and the ‘gram. A friend of mine once told me that she likes to read blogs that revolve around a person’s life - not a blogger whose life revolves around their blog. I’m afraid of becoming the latter.
I always tell other bloggers who do this as a hobby that blogging is supposed to be fun for us, not a chore - we have full time jobs so our blogs should be our release. If it feels like a chore, you need to take a break. I’m going to take my own advice and step back for a week or so. I want to take this time off and spend it with my family and loved ones while hopefully refreshing my process. I put down in my planner to put something up the week of the 12th so I’ll be back then.
Thank you so much for sticking with me!
