Brian's old boss retired and went to Milford, Pennsylvania. He invited us up for a weekend and seeing as I was itching for a bit of adventure, we went. Ed is great, his home is lovely, and Milford is Beautiful! I honestly wish I could retire up there too now! Something about being in the woods in an isolated area, but still be a two hours train ride from NYC is so awesomely romantic to me. And the hiking trails. Oh those trails! #dattrailtho

We went on two hikes during our stay: One in Ed's back yard (he lived really close to a river), and one in the Poconos Mountains. Those hikes were TOUGH! The steep hills and long trails were rough at times but every time I looked up, the scenery was beautiful and it made it all worth it! Plus, it was an excellent workout. Most of these photos are from our little nature walk/hiking excursion. I learned the names of a LOT of plants, and I even saw a few trees cut off by beavers for their dams(!) Definitely not something you see in DC, that's for sure.

We also made sure to visit the town of Milford as well. It's a really cute little town (only two streets!) and also incredibly progressive to boot! There are no chain restaurants or stores there and all signs are no more that four by four feet. Ed is heavily involved in politics (made sense as that was a big part of his job in DC before he retired) and he knew the Mayor (Sean Strub) of the town as well so we were able to meet him as well! I know Milford isn't on the top of everyone's travel bucket list but if you're ever nearby, I think you should check it out. It's the perfect place for a break from city life.
