Product Review: Kat Von D Lock-It Powder Foundation and Tattoo Liner
Disclosure: I received complimentary press samples products or services for this post. As always, all opinions are my own. I only ever accept products I truly love or believe in.
I used to use this awesome BB powder foundation from Etude House. I first picked it up while visiting my family in Seoul back in 2015. Sadly they had discontinued it shortly after I bought it and when I used it up, I was slow to find an alternative.
Influenster sent me a voxbox of Kat Von D’s new Lock-It Powder foundation and Tattoo Liner and I thought I may have finally found my replacement! I love powder foundations more than liquid foundations because I find that the coverage tends to be perfect for what I need. However, I’m also picky AF so I knew I’d have a rather discerning eye for this foundation. Plus, I was starting to run low on liquid eyeliner so it came at the perfect time.

What it claims to do
For the foundation:
This fast full coverage powder foundation delivers instant blurring and extreme long wear, all wrapped up in a sexy, badass compact. Experience pore-perfecting, flawless full coverage—Lock-It Powder Foundation is formulated with rice powder extract to blur away imperfections, while kaolin, a clay mineral, helps give a diffused matte finish without feeling dry, so it’s ideal for a range of skin types, including oily, dry, textured and smooth. Lock-It Powder Foundation is available in a range of 26 shades, thoughtfully developed to offer a match for a range of skin tones and undertones.
For the eyeliner:
Liquid liner has never been easier with our #1 award-winning Tattoo Liner.
With a highly pigmented, 24-hour-wear formula that's also waterproof and transfer-resistant, you can trust Tattoo Liner to stay put, no matter what! The key is Tattoo Liner's ultra-precise brush tip: 325 flexible bristles come together in a tight, crisp point, ready to unleash any look imaginable. The supple, saturated tip glides across lids in a silky smooth stroke, making Tattoo Liner the ultimate tool for both makeup newbies and beauty pros alike. Choose from two satin-matte shades: Ultra-black "Trooper Black" or rich, chocolate "Mad Max Brown."
Both products are vegan and cruelty-free.
For the foundation… I really loved it! It was so extra with the matte black hollowed out logo on the top and the bright red inside. It just made me feel like a badass queen every time I picked it up and used it! I got a cushion applicator for it but unfortunately, there’s no place for it inside the packaging so I had to store it separately. I was initially annoyed by this but to be honest, I haven’t really used the cushion applicator all that much because I use my foundation brush instead. I did take off half a point for that but I honestly find the packaging pretty delightful overall 4.5/5
As for the tattoo liner… I feel like there’s not much to be said that hasn’t been said already about this eyeliner. It’s a cult favorite for a reason and it doesn’t have any super distinguishing packaging. I will note, however, that the lid has an interesting bounce to it before you click it closed. I think it’s to keep the brush tip clean and I do appreciate that. It makes me feel more secure when I close it - there will be no leaks! 5/5
I think I can finally say that I’ve officially found my replacement everyday powder foundation! I really love the amount of coverage this foundation can provide! I’m definitely a light coverage kind of girl and this gives me exactly what I need… but also can be buildable to become full coverage when I need it (mostly for photoshoots). It’s incredible! It gives me a nice matte finish but never feels cakey. I’ve even used it as a sort of finishing powder on top of my Marc Jacobs Shameless foundation and it really just “locks it” in! I LOVE it. 5/5
Like I said before, what can I say about the Tattoo liner that hasn’t been said already? I can’t believe I held out on using it before because it really just stays on all day! I have hooded/monolid eyes and sometimes have trouble with eyeliners not staying put on my eyes but, like tattoos, once I apply it, it’s not going anywhere! Surprisingly, it’s not too difficult to remove either wit eye makeup remover or my Banila Cleansing balm. 5/5
The Kat Von D Lock It Powder Foundation costs $36. It’s definitely a more high-end makeup but I personally think it’s worth any penny. 4/5
The Tattoo Liner is also worth every penny as well, though it’s a bit pricier than what I’m used to paying. I think I may need to replace my Maybelline eyeliners for this and I honestly won’t complain about the price because it’s a big step up. 4/5
