July 2019 Bucket List and 6 Month Shopping Ban Update

June seriously felt so short! I know I say this every month, but wow, I can’t believe we’re already at the end of the month already! In fact, I feel like the year just got away from me - we’ve now passed the halfway point in the year! I wanted to do a quick update on my big yearly goal, which was my year-long shopping ban and then get on to some of the things I want to do next month.

6 Month Shopping Ban Update

I gotta say, since my three month mark, it’s honestly gotten so easy to stick to my ban! It’s interesting because I had a feeling that if there was any time I’d really regret instituting this shopping ban, it’d be in the spring and summer months because warm-weather fashion is always the most tempting to me. Surprisingly, I haven’t gotten that itch to shop at all! I actually will fully admit though, I did buy a workout outfit (a top and leggings) because I forgot that my Fabletics membership hold expired and it charged my credit card money. Instead of letting that charge go to waste, I bought a sensible workout outfit which actually worked out great because two of my leggings had gotten holes and I don’t have that many cute workout tops anyway (I usually wear old t-shirts to the gym that have definitely seen better days). I did try to to sew the holes in my leggings but they didn’t rip at the seams or anything, they ripped in the middle where my knees are so it was difficult to fix. I haven’t thrown them out yet, but I do plan on cutting them up and turning them into hair ties (yay for repurposing clothes!).

So far my purchase count for the entire year of 2019 looks like this:

  • Gray Nisolo flats (purchased Jan 5) to replace a pair of old flats that fell apart

  • Fresh Lotus Youth Preserve Dream Night Cream (purchased Feb 12) after I ran out of my Origins High Potency Night-a-Mins

  • Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask (purchased Apr 22) after I ran out of my Smith’s Rosebud Salve

  • Tarte Tartelette “Tease” palette (purchased Apr 22) after I hit pan on my Maybelline Eyeshadow Quad in “Chai Latte.”

  • Fabletics Muscle Tee and Leggings outfit (purchased Jun 5) after the company charged me when my membership hold expired.

Literally these five items are ALL I bought all year (that is excluding things like toothpaste or paper towels and such. I’m just talking about my “unnecessary” purchases). Excluding the workout outfit, all of these fit into my “exceptions” category of my shopping ban rules. I am really proud of myself right now and I know am really hoping this ban is just going to get easier. I have a feeling it will because if it’s this easy now, when there are so many temptations, I can’t imagine it’ll get harder with fewer temptations!

The Bucket List

Before I get into the bucket list for July, I want to do a look back at my list from June:

  • Celebrate a Long-Distance Father’s Day

Check! I sent my dad a nice gift and we Facetimed on Father’s Day proper. I

  • Hang Out By the Pool

Another check! I had an Instagram stories with the classic “hot dogs or legs” picture, and I even made a poll

  • Go to Jazz in the Garden

I not only attended this fun outdoor concert, I blogged about my experience here! Even though I love this DC summer event series, I actually hadn’t been

  • Stick with a new Blogging Schedule

Absolutely check! I have only been blogging 3-4 times a week instead of my usual 6. It has taken so much stress out of my life and I feel like each post I do have up is a lot more in-depth with things I actually want to talk about instead of fillers for a photo. I used to get so burnt out with my post almost everyday schedule but now I feel more creative and I am honestly enjoying blogging a lot more. Blogging is my hobby and not my primary source of income so I should have more flexibility and freedom than someone who runs it as their full-time job. However, I was treating it like my full-time job on top of my regular full-time job so of course I was getting burnt out constantly. I’m loving my new schedule and I can’t see myself going back any time soon!

Now, here are a few things on my bucket list for July:

  • Celebrate Fourth of July/Brian’s Birthday

Yes, my boyfriend is an Independence Day baby! It’s quite nice because we will always get the day off for his b-day. His friends have been wanting to plan a tubing trip for the day which I know will be something he’ll enjoy!

  • Visit a few new museums

One of my goals for 2019 is to have visited every Smithsonian museum in DC. I’ve been to the National Portrait Gallery, the African American Museum, the Air and Space, the National Zoo, The Smithsonian Castle, the Hirshhorn, and the Natural History Museum. There are 19 museums in all and I am hoping to hit up the Postal Museum, the Renwick Gallery, the American Indian Museum, and the Smithsonian Gardens!

  • Finish my Crochet Throw

I’ve been working on my chunky crochet throw since last year and I’m still not done with it! Hopefully, I’ll be able to get it done by this month! I’m determined!

  • Take a Road Trip

I have a huge (and expensive) trip coming up in the next few months so I’m trying to save some money in the meantime. However, I do think that taking a short trip outside of DC would be fun too! I’m thinking maybe Baltimore or Annapolis?

  • Complete my Summer 10 x 10 Challenge

I am hoping to do a 10x10 challenge every season including this one! In case you don’t know what the 10x10 Challenge is, you pick 10 pieces in your wardrobe that you have to wear in 10 different ways for 10 days. It’s an easy way to dip your toes into capsule wardrobes if you’re interested in that. I did one in the winter and the Spring (though I didn’t do a recap in the Spring… oops!)
