Summer 2019 10x10 Challenge: Outfits and Recap
If you recall, ten days ago, I declared that I would do the summer 2019 10x10 challenge. This wardrobe challenge requires the acceptor to pick any ten pieces in their closet for their capsule wardrobe to create ten different looks in ten days. The details of this challenge can be found here. This was started by Lee from Style Bee. I recommend checking out her blog and her previous 10x10 challenges if you would like to do this too.
As a reminder, these are the pieces I picked for this season’s 10x10 challenge:

What I learned:
I think I loved this season’s 10x10 challenge better than others because there were so many more outfits I thought of creating than I had time to do so! It certainly made my life easier completing this challenge and I honestly enjoyed wearing every look.
The only thing Id’ go back and do differently is pick a different dress for this challenge. As much as I LOVE my Sézane Marielle dress, it’s not exactly the most versatile dress when it comes to styling. The wrap style makes it impossible to wear any of my tops I picked over it (not that I would want to right now in 90 degree weather), and the long length made it impossible for me to tuck it into any of the bottoms I picked (can you imagine me shoving the skirt portion into my Everlane Easy pants or my shorts??). Still, I’m glad I had a dress to break up the monotony of my other looks. I just would have perhaps picked a more versatile dress to help with styling next time.
I also learned that ultimately, what I want my wardrobe to be is cohesive. I know I’m definitely not there yet but someday I want to be able to walk into my closet in the dark, blindly pick a few pieces out of it, and come out with every single one of them matching. I think it would honestly take a lot away from decision fatigue and save me time in the mornings.
My Favorite outfits
I really loved my outfits on days 4, 5, and 9. I’ve said this before but tend to like outfits that creates clean lines. What I also loved about is that I like simple looks that are super comfortable as well and these looks fit that bill.
My Least favorite Outfits
This was hard because unlike with my winter 10x10 challenge, I didn’t have any looks I didn’t like! I honestly was pretty happy with all the outfits I created from this capsule. A long-term goal of mine when it comes to creating a wardrobe is having one so cohesive I could go into my closet in the dark, pick a few pieces, randomly, and have them all match each other. I think with this particular capsule, I managed to do just that. If I absolutely had to pick though, I would say my outfits on days 6 and 10. I LOVE this dress from Sézane, but I couldn’t really get creative with them.
A Few Tips…
In the summer, planning is really crucial. I saw that when other people online did this summer challenge, they added a lot of shorts and such. Blogging isn’t a full-time job for me. I happen to work in political advocacy with a more formal dress code. Luckily for me, this dress code is a bit more relaxed in the summer, but I definitely still can’t show up to the office wearing shorts. I stuck to one pair of shorts, to be worn on the weekends, and picked loose, breezy pants to be worn during the week (air conditioning in the summer makes me cold). If you plan on doing this challenge, make sure you give yourself some leeway when it comes to professional outfits.
Regarding laundry - unlike with the winter challenge, the humidity made me sweat a lot so I did have to do laundry twice during this challenge. However, I actually don’t sweat that much and have weird Korean genes where my sweat doesn’t actually require me to wear deodorant (that’s a real thing -seriously, read the link. It’s bizarre!) so I could wait for a bit between washes to launder my clothes. I probably washed my tops after two wears but my bottoms got washed after about three wears and my linen blend Sézane dress held up the best - I just sent it to the dry cleaners today!
Let me know in the comments if you plan on doing the 10x10 challenge too. It’s a LOT easier than you think!
