10 Best Purchases of 2018

Now that all the holiday festivities are over, I kind of want to do a once-over on my year. 2018 was an interesting year for me, shopping and fashion-wise. I really had to stop and define what I want my style to become and I am decidedly heading into the territory of minimalism with a focus on sustainable and ethical brands. I think some of my purchases this year really reflected that. I want to take a moment to appreciate some of my best purchases I’ve made this past year.

blondo nova booties

Blondo Nova booties

I bought these booties during the Nordstrom Anniversary sale this past summer and they were probably the best purchase I’ve made! They are waterproof, making them perfect year round (if you’ve never experienced a DC rainy summer, consider yourself lucky). They also have a small block heel which I love at my petite (5’3”) height. Plus, the color is gorgeous! They’re very versatile and chic!

stutterheim raincoat

Stutterheim Stockholm Raincoat

Admittedly, this raincoat was really expensive and it kind of hurt to pay for it (it’s $295). Still, I’m so glad I did buy it. The rainy season lately has been non-stop and this coat came in handy so many times. The color is so pretty and unexpected, the silhouette is classic, and (best of all), it’s the epitome of slow fashion!

Everlane cashmere sweater

Everlane Cashmere Rib Crew sweater

For less than $150, the price point of this cashmere sweater is a pretty decent one. I was drawn to this cashmere sweater when Everlane did a pop up cashmere shop here in DC because of its ribbing, its chunkier knit, and the gorgeous neutral gray color. I swear, I could wear this sweater every day because it’s so soft and comfortable! It’s versatile and will take you from office to casual. I kind of want to get this in more colors!

Steve Madden Irenee Sandals

Steve Madden Irenee Sandals

You’d think I had no other shoes this summer. The Steve Madden Irenee sandals are a blogger favorite for a reason! The low block heel makes it easy to walk in, not to mention the nude color makes it extremely versatile and leg-lengthening!

Sézane Nicky Jumper

Sézane Nicky Jumper

I didn’t expect to like this sweater as much as I did! Last Autumn, I bought two sweaters from Sézane, the Eduardo jumper and this Nicky jumper. I seriously thought I’d like the Eduardo jumper more, just because of the lace-trim collar. Don’t get me wrong, I love the Eduardo jumper but this Nicky jumper is so… amazing! It’s made with baby alpaca fur so it is soft af! The neckline is so delicate and pretty, and it looks amazing dressed up and dressed down!

Dagne Dover Classic Tote

Dagne Dover Classic Tote

You know you’ve made a great purchase when you use it every day… and that’s exactly what I do with this tote! I was drawn to it after the strap of my Tory Burch York Buckle tote broke off. I liked that it had organizational pockets to ensure your bag stays tidy at all times. I seriously use only this bag for work. It fits my laptop, a 32oz water bottle, my notebooks, wallet, and extra knick knacks with room to spare AND it always stays neat! No more messy bag for this girl!

Leith Wrap Dress

Leith Dress

This Leith dress is pretty much seasonless. Wear it in the summer to combat the cold air-conditioning. Wear it in the winter with a pair of over-the-knee boots! It’s so figure-flattering, due to the ruching. It’s the perfect little black dress! I had seen so many bloggers wearing it over the last two years and there’s a reason a lot of us like it.

Sézane High Gabriella Boots

Sézane High Gabriella boots

These boots are the bee’s knees! I actually had been on the lookout for a chic pair of black boots for the Fall and Winter that were more formal for work and social situations. I finally found them in the Sézane High Gabriellas. The height is slightly too tall for me because I’m short, but I don’t mind. I really adore the detailed stitching on it - it almost looks like a wrap dress, but boot form!

Warby Parker Durand Frames

I finally got a new pair of glasses after using my old ones for the last five years. I opted for Warby Parker frames because they’re good quality, they’re affordable (especially since I am extremely near-sighted and most of the time I have to get high prescription glasses which tends to get expensive quick). I tried on a lot of different pairs of glasses from them but I never thought I’d like these Durand frames. I actually thought I’d like the Welty frames better but something about these Durand frames really made me smile! They’re in the Whiskey Tortoise color which are classic and chic!

Angela Roi Eleanor Satchel

Angela Roi Eleanor Satchel

I bought this bag used from Poshmark in the summer after first hearing about the Angela Roi brand from a Youtuber. I went on their website and found myself really drawn to the Eleanor satchel because of the chic accordion-like pleats on the side. Even though this bag is made of vegan leather, it doesn’t feel cheap in the slightest! I’ve been super impressed with the quality of the bag and it’s the perfect little black bag for all occasions.
