Purchases I Regret
Let’s face it: None of us are perfect. I’m certainly not and my wardrobe fails confirm this! Today, I want to share some of the purchases that had me feeling buyer’s remorse over the years. I think it’s good to do a review of all the items I didn’t really love so that I can identify what I didn’t like about it and why it didn’t work for me so that I don’t make similar purchasing mistakes in the future.
Kate Spade Beau Bag
Ohhhhh the Beau bag! I remember when Kate Spade first came out with these, I basically turned into the heart eye emoji! Their marketing campaign was very convincing to me. I saved up money from my first real “grown-up” job and bought the “French Navy” version that you see here. For the longest time, I didn’t regret this purchase at all! I wore it everywhere - to work, to play, to church with my mom, and on dates. But over the years, I’m realizing this purse just doesn’t have staying power. Don’t get me wrong, I still think this is a cute purse overall, but I’m just over the colorful phase in my life and the bag is definitely a lot trendier than what I like right now. I almost never take this purse out of its dust bag anymore. I need to bite the bullet and either sell it or give it away but I have a bit of an emotional attachment to this bag because it was my first “designer” bag I bought with my own money. For now, I’m keeping it but we’ll see how it holds up in another ten years or so.
Zara Kitten Heel Booties
I am not sure why I ever thought kitten heels were cute! I think it’s because they were small so they gave you a bit of height while being seemingly comfortable. Another trend I ended up completely being over. I bought these Zara booties from Poshmark to replace a pair of black booties that were worn out but I found myself never wanting to wear these that much! The heel wasn’t actually that comfortable at all and the dips in the side of the boot made them really hard to wear with jeans and such. I ended up reselling these and I learned my lesson that kitten heels aren’t for me and to never get boots with an ankle dip.
Victoria Beckham x Target romper
The thing about this romper is that I didn’t even love it when I bought it. I only convinced myself to love it because I seriously just wanted a piece from Victoria Beckham’s collection with Target. That collection was SO popular and inentory was flying off the shelves so fast! I managed to get this one romper which wasn’t even the piece I really wanted all that much but it was the only thing available in my size so I hit “purchase.” The thing is, I actually still think it’s a cute piece and I do love the scallops. But, I don’t like the color at all - it just doesn’t do anything for me. I never felt confident in it like I do in some of my other rompers. I ended up giving this to my friend who loved it and I have seen her wearing it a lot in the summer so I’m glad it’s put to good use. Note to self though: bright orange is not your color.
Madewell Gingham Ruffle Strap Cami
I love gingham and ruffles so I thought this cami would be perfect for me. Truthfully, the only thing I hate about this cami is the straps - they are ENTIRELY too long. They’re also impossible to adjust - they don’t have an adjuster because of the ruffle straps, and I can’t even resew them shorter because the straps aren’t a consistent size (they go from thin in the back to thicker in the front). Plus, I found when I put it on, the ruffles actually accentuate the thickest part of my arms in the most unflattering way and I hated the way it made me feel. I wasn’t comfortable constantly trying to keep my straps up, and I didn’t think I looked good in it, so what was the point?
White Polka Dot Maxi dress
There’s nothing wrong with the way the dress looked per se, but the material was SO thin that it was almost see-through! Don’t get me wrong, I alway wear nude undergarments when I wear white but even with that, it was still kind of see through. I thought I could perhaps wear it to the beach or even the pool but, it just looks terrible over my swimsuits. I still have this dress because I only wore it twice and I’m thinking of using the fabric to make soemthing else. In the future though, just say no to cheap white fabric dresses.
So tell me about some purchases you’ve made that you regret!
