June 2022 Favorites and July Bucket List

With summer in full swing, I’ve been looking for a good everyday sunscreen. I love my Cocokind sunscreen but I wanted to find something with a bit higher SPF for outdoors. Enter the Supergoop Unseen Sunscreen! It may be not only my new favorite sunscreen but also my husband’s favorite too! I just love that it doesn’t leave my face greasy or shiny. It’s actually also a pretty good primer for my makeup as well! I can’t believe it’s taken me so long to jump onto the Supergoop train!

I did a review of collagen powder this past month but as I finished the Strawberry Lemon flavor powder, I bought a Vital Proteins Marine Collagen Powder that is unflavored and I love it! As I said in my review, I’m just not a breakfast person, and I didn’t like feeling like I had to eat something that would go with the flavor of the powder, just to get collagen. I’ve switched to the unflavored powder and I add it to my coffee every morning. The best!

Finally, I hopped onto the belt bag train. I resisted for so long because I didn’t see the point of them as I thought my crossbody bags are cuter. However, with hot and humid summer mornings, I stopped wearing jackets while walking my dog and realized I have no place to put my phone and keys in my pocketless athletic wear and finally understood the appeal of the belt bag as my crossbodies were just too much for a dog walk/run. I got the Lululemon Everwhere Belt bag on the recommendation of a friend and it has been a godsend! I wear it everywhere all the time and even took it with me on my work trip to Chicago!

Entertainment Favorites

I was in the mood to watch something new instead of binging on The Office for the thousandth time. I finally watched Big Mouth on Netflix and I am beating myself up for not watching it sooner! It’s so funny but thoughtful at the same time! It also sparked a lot of interesting discussions between my husband and me on body positivity and how sexuality was treated when we were growing up vs. how a lot of kids these days are growing up.

I also, on the recommendation of my best friend, watched Our Flag Means Death on HBO. I wasn’t too familiar with Taika Waititi (I admit, I’m just not the biggest fan of Thor films in the Marvel Cinematic Universe) so I wasn’t really sure what to expect with this show but it’s quite funny and silly! It’s also based on the true story of Stede Bonnett, a wealthy English nobleman who used his means to become a criminal pirate (albeit poorly). I highly recommend it!

Life Updates

I went to Chicago for a work trip! We had a conference up there and our hotel was right by Michigan Avenue on the river. After the conference, I spent the rest of the weekend in town and my husband came up too! We had fun going on the architecture boat tour, hitting up pubs, and discovering indie bookstores!

We also saw Hannah Einbinder at DC Improv! My friends actually gave us their tickets because they, unfortunately, got COVID and couldn’t make it. I wasn’t too familiar with Hannah Einbinder’s comedy but I checked out a few episodes of Hack on HBO and enjoyed it! She was very funny and we had a great night!

I wrote a post earlier in the month that I got into law school and I’ll be attending an evening JD program starting in late August. Good news: I got my schedule for law school! I’m really excited to start now!

Bucket List Items

  • Visit Baltimore

Done! My uncle was visiting from South Korea this month so we took him around not only DC, but the surrounding areas. He really wanted to visit Baltimore as he heard great things and we wandered around Fort McHenry for a while with him!

  • Smithsonian Folk Life Festival

Alas, I just did not have time to go. Since we had our wedding last month, I’ve been on go-mode because we had our conference in Chicago to prepare for immediately afterward. Maybe next year!

  • Go to the Farmer’s Market and Shop

    Checked off, with pleasure!

  • Read 5 Books

I just barely made this goal by the skin of my teeth - I finished my fifth book of the month on the last day of June at around 10 PM! It’s been a while since I’ve shared a monthly book roundup and I have that prepared and very excited to post it!

  • Check out The Bean

Done! I’ve always wanted to see the Bean in Chicago and I had the pleasure of ticking off that life bucket list item while I was there for my work conference!

July Bucket List

  • Celebrate July 4th

Not only is July 4th Independence Day in the US, but it’s also my husband’s birthday and, frankly, a much-needed break for me! I feel like I’ve been “on” for the last two months with no real break. I took two days off work before the wedding to prepare for it but I went straight back to work afterward and, to be honest, I wasn’t able to have a relaxing trip in Chicago because I was so exhausted from the conference. I really need a day off!

  • Go Tubing with Friends

We were planning a tubing trip this month but the weather wasn’t oppressive enough - I like to go tubing when the temps are in the 90s, but we got high 70s to low 80s days with not too much humidity, which is good for us but not great for tubing. July’s likely to be hot so hopefully, we’ll make that river tubing trip!

  • Pool Time

The pool in my building has been undergoing some work but they’ve finally opened! Short of the tubing trip, I’m going to spending quite a bit of time poolside!

  • Read 5 books

Fingers crossed I’ll have enough time for this!
