Hello lovelies!
I saw recipes for baked apple roses floating around Pinterest and I had been dying to try them. I finally got a real opportunity to make them when I was invited to a friend's party - he had recently gotten his US citizenship! I wanted to bring something very American and though apple pie was suggested, I decided to go the easy route and bake apple roses instead (much prettier to look at). Luckily, I didn't mess them up too bad and they were gone by the end of the night! I call that a success!
Here is the recipe I used:
Ingredients:
- 2 apples - I used fuji apples but honeycrisp apples work as well too)
- 3 tablespoons of lemon juice
- 2 tablespoons of brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon of melted, unsalted butter
- 1/2 teaspoon of ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon of nutmeg
- 1 sheet of puff pastry
- 3 tablespoons of fruit preservatives (I used raspberry but peach and strawberry would be good too)
- Flour for dusting
Directions:
Preheat the oven to 375 degrees while you grease a standard muffin tin
Core an apple and slice it into 4 equal pieces. Thinly slice the apples into 1/8 of an inch (If you have a mandolin, use that - so much easier!). Toss into a large bowl and add lemon juice so that the apples don't brown. Add in butter, brown sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Mix thoroughly.
Microwave the apple slices for about 45 seconds - just to make them more flexible to molding.
Place the puff pastry on a floured surface and cut into long two-inch wide strips.
