2018 Bullet Journal Setup

Something I started taking a lot more seriously in the last six months of 2017 was bullet journaling. I got into a good routine of planning my weeks and days found a bullet journal system that really works for me. So it was with preparation I started to set up my bullet journal for 2018.

I think a new post I want to start doing from now on is showing you guys my monthly bullet journal setups. A lot of people on Instagram have expressed an interest in seeing more bullet journal related content so I may start doing that going forth. I know that I had a lot of fun filling in my bullet journal and if I can help you guys be inspired to start filling out your own that would be my pleasure!

Legend

I always devote the first page of my bullet journal to a legend. I created symbols and icons that I've found works for me, but different things work for different people. The most important thing is to be consistent throughout. I also have a color coding system that I've used for a couple of years that has always remained consistent. Things in red pertain to my blog, things in green pertain to my finances, etc. Take a moment to think things through and figure out what symbols and colors will work for you. Who knows, maybe you find that color-coding is redundant for your purposes. Maybe you don't need the "Marks" section like I do. Maybe you need more colors and symbols. Do what works for you and make sure you stick with it. The legend will always be there for your reference.

Year at a Glance and Books to Read

My year at a glance page is just a reference for me. Some people feel they don't need it but I find it helpful sometimes. I also decorated it with my skinny washi tape to separate the boxes. The next page contains the books I want to read in this year. I set my Goodreads goal for the 2018 to be 25 books. Obviously I don't have 25 books written down but as the year goes, I will be adding more books I want to read and will be checking off the books I do manage to read. I love this page because there's this great satisfaction I get when I finally check off a book I've had on my TBR list for so long!

Capsule Wardrobe and 2018 Resolutions

The Capsule Wardrobe section is actually kind of a misnomer and looking back, I do wish I could rename it, "Holes in My Closet." The premise of this section is basically this: If I had to create a capsule wardrobe, these are the items I would put in it. Some of the check boxes are marked off because I have it, but some of them are not because it's a hole in my closet that needs to be filled. I am hoping this will encourage me to invest in these pieces and think twice before buying anything not on this list as it would be somewhat unnecessary.

My 2018 Resolutions page is self-explanatory. I separated my resolutions into four categories: Personal (for personal growth-related resolutions), Blog (for some benchmarks I want to hit this year), Money (for some financial goals), and Reading (as that will be a big priority this year).

Yearly Log

This log is sort of a yearly planner of sorts. Next to each month I highlighted the date with my corresponding color to the category it pertains to (see "color coding" in my Legend section above). This is a quick way for me to look and see what big things I have to look forward to each month which will be helpful for blogging and planning out friends' birthdays.

Nineteen Before 2019 and Swatches

My "Nineteen Before 2019" page is pretty much a bucket list of things I want to do this year. I haven't finished writing it but at the top of my list is to go visit South Korea and see my relatives and brother (my brother is teaching English in Seoul for a year!).

The next page is swatches of all my colorful bullet journal supplies. pretty self-explanatory but I like having this page because sometimes the color on the tube of my markers don't always look the same way on paper and I just want to know what I'm using.

Swatches (cont'd) and January Cover Page

For January, I took a page out of Youtuber AmandaRachLee's December theme and made a snowflake winter theme. I really love the the cover page turned out and I love the snowflakes! So pretty and I really hope it snows this month so my cover page makes sense haha. Also, I highly recommend Amanda's Youtube channel for bullet journal inspiration. She's so creative and artistic!

Month at a Glance

I love having a monthly calendar spread as I can quickly glance at it to get major deadlines and events dates. On the side, I created a social media tracker. I keep track of my social media on a weekly basis but I like looking at my growth stats monthly as well to see how far I've come. A bit redundant, I know, but I like it.

Habit Tracker and Monthly Goals

I've shared in a previous post some of the things I track in my bullet journal habit tracker and for the most part, the format has stayed the same as last year so no changes were necessary. Same with my monthly goals page. I have a monthly bucket list that I share here on the blog, a fillable area of some of my favorites, and I fill out my guiding word. My guiding word for this month is Courage

Brain Dump

Nothing to see here - just two pages to write out whatever comes to mind this month. I'm always glad to have it too!

First Weekly Spread

I've found that this particular weekly spread works the best for me. I tend not to need too much space on the weekends so I condense Saturday and Sunday task list in half. The rest of the week is spaced 11 dot spaces apart. On the side I have a monthly calendar view (for reference), a goals section I fill in with some things I want to get done this week. Below that is my social media tracker (see "monthly social media tracker" under Month at a Glance section above). On the other side is a "Blogs" section with a schedule of my blog posts. Below that is a "Reminders" section where I write out important dates and deadlines.

That's it! Whew, this was a long post but I hope it was a helpful one! Now I want to know if any of you guys bullet journal and what some of your spreads look like!

I like the idea of the capsule wardrobe/wardrobe gap list! I made one a while a go of things I needed to buy and managed to get most of the things on the list, but I bought a lot that wasn't on the list too, haha!

Happy new year! Hope that 2018 has started nicely for you! Mine has been so enjoyable as I'm still on leave from work so I'm taking the opportunity to relax!

  6. I'm so glad you shared this- I love seeing how you keep your journal organized and I'm so jealous of your handwriting! I think I'm going to give bullet journaling another try this year-- I used it a little bit last year more for listing and keeping track of workouts, but never kept up with it.
