I've fallen off the wagon with "Currently" posts and part of the reason why is because they felt rather limiting and I put a lot of pressure on myself to write them.I usually sit down on Sunday mornings to write them but my Sunday mornings had been so stressful and busy I just didn't bother for the longest time.
So starting this year, I will be getting rid of my weekly "Currently" posts and replacing them with "Coffee Chats" instead!
What does this mean? Not much, really. I just didn't like the limiting way that I had to only talk about one thing I read that I liked, or something, when I wanted to share several things from the same category. With Coffee Chats posts, I can write about just a few things that peaked my interest in a sort of rambling-with-a-friend-over-coffee kind of way.
Here we go:
ONE || Nine Unnecessary Items You Think You Need to Buy
I know a lot of people made a few financial resolutions for the new year (myself included). A Youtube channel I really like watching is called The Financial Diet and they kicked off 2018 with a video talking about things a lot of people buy but don't actually need. Very eye-opening to listen to and it really made me think of the unnecessary things I buy.
Have you guys been watching the new Bachelor season starring Arie (not Peter, unfortunately)? Brian and I find Arie to be sort of meh, but the last date they went on was atrocious! First of all, (and yes, I did use a "first of all"), in the midst of the #metoo movement, who thought it was a good idea to put a bunch of women in a situation where they had to physically fight each other? Secondly that GLOW girl was way out of line talking to Bibiana like that. But don't take my word for it - a bunch of others seem to agree that this season has take chauvinism to a new level, even for The Bachelor.
THREE || Newlook Mixed Mesh Swimsuit
I don't actually need another swimsuit but I am being sorely tempted by this on at ASOS! It's sporty and trendy but not over-the-top while also being really affordable. I like it!
As an Asian-American, I'm always interested in writers who can write about a similar experience I went through so I was excited to see I knew quite a few writers from this list! I'm currently reading Pachinko by Min Jin Lee (number 5 on the list), and I've read Little Fires Everywhere by Celeste Ng. Speaking of Celeste Ng...
FIVE || Celeste Ng's Asian Mom
I laughed so hard when I saw this text exchange between Ng and her mom. If you have an Asian mom too, it's probably the most relatable thing ever.
Brian and I have been looking forward to seeing this series! We really enjoyed the OJ Simpson series the same people did and as this combines two of my favorite things - true crime and fashion - I was so excited to watch!
SEVEN || Dagne Dover Classic Tote vs. Longchamp Le Pliage
My Longchamp has seen better days. The zipper is broken, there are small holes in the bottom, and no amount of wiping seems to be able remove a tiny stain that is driving me crazy. I think it's time to get a new work bag, but I'm trying to decide between the Dagne Dover Classic tote or another Longchamp. What I loved about my Longchamp is that it's really lightweight and packable - I don't like bags that are heavy because I tend to put heavy things inside them making it weigh a ton. BUT the Dagne Dover bags are so awesome - they come with organizers built in which is so handy! Which one to buy though...
I have been wearing this polish NONSTOP! It's such a gorgeous pastel shade that is perfect for all seasons! I can see this becoming one of my HG shades!
Thanks for reading!

Oooh I'll have to check out The Financial Diet! I'm always looking for new resources for financial tips.
ReplyDeleteI'm more of a Bachelorette fan than a Bachelor fan- but it sounds like Arie's season is kinda meh so far!! I'm keeping up online though :)

Okay, I'm off to watch that video! We have a goal of saving up money to buy a house this year.
ReplyDeletei love the replacement, and these sound so interesting! especially the part about asian american writers... <3 kevin kwan is actually my fav right now haha
ReplyDeleteI need to try that nail polish too!!
ReplyDeleteOh how long have you had your Le Pliage for? My friend keeps recommending that I get one but I haven't taken the plunge yet, it would be a really practical bag for spending time with the boys I think! It's a shame yours is showing wear. I guess if you use it every day for work it wouldn't last that long though.
ReplyDeleteHope that you are having a wonderful weekend! We're going to have a quiet one here after a similarly quiet week, as we've been a bit under the weather.
Away From The Blue Blog
Ooh that nail polish is so pretty! I feel you on post series that can feel limiting sometimes!
ReplyDeleteOooh that Essie polish is so pretty! And I say you should make your series whatever you want it to be...it's your blog so you do you (:

ReplyDeleteI can't wait to hear what you think of Pachinko-- I still don't know anyone else who has read it yet. I'm going to check out that video because we're trying to do a better job with unnecessary spending.
ReplyDeleteI like this format. It’ll give you a chance to write more broadly on different topics. Thanks for sharing these stories - can’t wait to read the next post!
